The day before the Crown Iris cruise ship arrives at Syros, police forces from Athens disembark on the island. When I asked him, “what are you doing?”, he started cursing at me and making derogatory comments about my appearance, saying things about my hair and asking, “Where are you going looking like that?” We exchanged a few words and walked away toward the hill. A little later, as we were leaving, we saw that the same police officer had moved away from the others and was waiting for us alone above the closed stadium. When we walked past him without speaking to him, he began to follow us very closely, provocatively sticking right behind me. When we reached again the spot where the riot police were, he sarcastically shouted to the others, “Here comes the brave one.” Immediately, about riot policement surrounded us. One stepped in front of us and started yelling, “What are you trying to start?" I told him that his colleague had started the harassment, but the situation got worse. They started cursing at us vulgarly, calling me a “whore,” and threatening that if they ran into us again, “we’d see what happens.” They aggressively told us to leave, telling me to “go back to the kitchen” and take my “boy” and get out of there. After a heated confrontation, we finally managed to leave the area.
